Edmonton is a beautiful sight in the morning and well worth getting up early for. And the food that awaits you after your morning stroll will make you thankful that you set your alarm clock. Edmonton is not short of brunch options for foodies (or food options in general) and is a great way to start your day before you explore the rest of the city. Here’s a short list to get you started. Let us know your favourites in the comments.

District Café

Open from 7am during the week and from 9am on the weekend, the bakers at District Café work passionately throughout the night to bring you freshly baked goods. Whether it’s apple caramel pie, blueberry lemon scones, rice crispy squares or a croissant – your sweet tooth will thank you.

10011 109 St NW #101, Edmonton, AB T5J 0B9.

Culina Café at the Muttart

The Muttart Conservatory is a must-visit in Edmonton, and if you pop by in the morning you can treat yourself to an award winning brunch. Open from 10am, choose between delights such as sweet potato waffles, eggs benedict, chicken and black bean tortillas, and Mason jar toffee pudding.

9626 96a St NW, Edmonton, AB T6C 4L8.

Transcend Coffee

So this place doesn’t actually serve food, but if it’s a great cup of coffee you’re looking for you’re in the right place. They take their coffee seriously: all the baristas are professionally trained, their coffee comes from around the world and there’s even a small shop to pick up some new beans.

8708 109 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1E4.

Cora’s Breakfast & Lunch

This place is quite unassuming at first, but you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to lunch and breakfast (and there’s even a children’s menu). There’s an assortment of pancakes, crêpes, waffles, omelettes and French toast. There’s a small gluten-free menu with a crêpe, omelette and fruit salad.

2920 Calgary Trail, Edmonton, Alberta.

Canteen

If you’re looking for something modern and different (and maybe a little bit hipster), head to Canteen. From the dedicated Brunch menu, choose between delights such as Buttermilk chicken and waffles, or Dutch baby pancakes with rhubarb compete, toasted coconut, walnut, back bacon and fried eggs.

10522 124 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 1R9.

Zinc Restaurant

For fans of fine dining, this is the brunch spot we’d recommend. Their standalone brunch menu gives foodies the choice between a larger main meal, a lighter a la carte snack or morning dessert. Whether it’s a stack of pancakes (with salted caramel cream and macerated fruit), lobster Benedict or banana bread French toast – your taste buds will thank you.

2 Sir Winston Churchill Square NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 2C1.

Meat

If you like to include meat and poultry in every meal, then we recommend this place.  Treat your carnivorous side to a Beef Brisket Benny, Yam and Potato Hash, and Fried Chicken & Waffles. Despite its name, vegetarians are also catered to with the Veggie Benny (Buttermilk Biscuit, Smoked Crimini, Asparagus, Housemade Hollandaise) and the Not Meat Sandwich.

 8216 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E5.

The Local Omnivore

Another option for lovers of fine meats – but this place creates all of its own cuts. And while the Brunch menu is small, it’s definitely one of the most creative. How about the Fraulein Sandwich with grilled cheese, smoked back bacon schnitzel, fried egg, and citrus hollandaise? Or the Sloppy Taco with creamy polenta, pirate spiced ground, pico de gallo, Omnivore salsa verde, sour cream and Valentina hot sauce?

10933 120 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 3P7.

The Manor Bistro

Would you like a burger for brunch? If so, you’ll need to treat yourself to the Striploin burger at the Manor Bistro. It comes complete with cheddar, maple strip bacon, fried egg, tomato, roasted garlic aioli, and lettuce. If you’re after something a little lighter, try some French toast or good old Eggs Benedict.

10109 125 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5N 0M4.

Daravara

Want another burger for breakfast? Try the Dirty Burger from Daravara: two 6oz sirloin steak patties, pimento cheese, sunny up egg, sausage gravy and potato hash. You can even treat yourself to a brunch-time steak served with Guinness butter and a poached egg.

10713 124 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H1.
